This 50th Anniversary boxed set edition of this special album features the original 1973 album mix (newly remastered from the original master tapes), along with wonderful new stereo and 5.1 Surround sound mixes of the album by Stephen W Tayler. Esoteric Antenna proudly announce a new studio album by Son Of Man for April!
• FANTASTIC NEW ALBUM BY SON OF MAN.
• FEATURING FORMER MAN MEMBERS GEORGE JONES AND BOB RICHARDS.
The album has at its heart, an eclectic collection of songs and styles but unmistakably anchored in the band’s heritage. From fast-paced, driving classic rock to dreamier, more progressive pieces, the album has something for all moods. Less of a concept album this time out but the focus is still on quality and the album sees writing contributions from all band members.
‘Gaslight’ sees a change in personnel for the band. The new line-up has George Jones now covering all guitars whilst a return for Ray Jones to bass duties follows a six- year hiatus as he is reunited with Richie Galloni (vocals), Bob Richards (drums) and Marco James (keyboards).
This is the third album from the Son Of Man stable and follows its previously well received predecessors ‘Son Of Man’ and ‘State Of Dystopia’. The album features appearances by Edgar Broughton Band member Arthur Grant and cellist Calle Arngrip and has been mixed by the acclaimed producer and engineer John Leckie (who began his career as a Tape Operator on the first Edgar Broughton Band album ‘Wasa Wasa’).
‘Break The Dark’ sees Edgar Broughton evolve his songwriting craft into something quite remarkable. It is a record which ranks as one of his most accomplished works.

FISH ON FRIDAY - 8mm
Fish On Friday has always been able to walk their own thin line between well-crafted art pop and progressive rock and have earned a constantly growing following in both camps. Though every album is different, the band has its own distinct sound, with lush vocal harmonies on top of thoughtful lyrics, in this case of a more nostalgic nature, hence the title track’s reference to watching old 8mm home movies.
This, the band’s sixth album and much anticipated follow up to the critically acclaimed ‘Black Rain’, features a line-up of Nick Beggs (bass and vocals), Frank van Bogaert (keyboards & vocals), Marty Townsend (guitars) and Marcus Weymaere (drums) and is the culmination of three years work. The sessions saw Nick Beggs assume the role of co-producer with Frank Van Bogaert. ‘8mm’ is a fascinating collaboration between friends and kindred musical spirits and is their finest work to date.

Unifaun: The brand new studio album from Nad Sylvan and Bonamici due in June!
• A NEW RELEASE OF THE WONDERFUL ALBUM BY NAD SYLVAN (STEVE HACKETT BAND) AND BONAMICI.
New release of the self-titled album by Unifaun. The Swedish duo of vocalist and instrumentalist Nad Sylvan and keyboard player Bonamici (Christian Thordin) came together after Nad saw the Genesis tribute act The Musical Box perform in London in 2003. A visit to Genesis internet forums saw him introduced to the music of Bonamici and after some discussion, the duo embarked on an album project to “write the songs that Genesis never did”.
The result was the superb album ‘Unifaun’. Originally released in 2008 the record has gained cult status over the ensuing years and put Nad Sylvan on the path to working with the band Agents of Mercy and then to become vocalist with former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett’s band and an acclaimed solo artist.
This Esoteric Antenna release is a very welcome reintroduction to a fine album and is sure to appeal to all aficionados of classic progressive rock.

Ben Reed has worked with Frank Ocean, David Byrne, Sampha and many others, but his own music is unpredictable, passionate and tinged with melancholy and has drawn comparisons to the so-called Canterbury sound of Progressive rock.
‘Bandaged’ is much more in the singer/songwriter vein than Ben’s previous releases, albeit tinged with an undeniable British proggy-ness. The richness of melody and harmonic vocabulary remains, and the influence of jazz is still detectable, this time via more concise song forms.
Past review comparisons to the Canterbury sound aren’t too far wide of the mark here, especially as Jimmy Hastings (Caravan, Hatfield & the North) is present on two of the songs.
Throughout the album there is a detectable combination of sentimentality and melancholy combined with playfulness and a dark sense of humour making ‘Bandaged’ one of the most interesting and innovative new albums of its genre in 2023.

Van der Graaf Generator were one of the most original and inspiring bands of the 1970s. When Peter Hammill, Hugh Banton, Guy Evans and David Jackson announced their reformation in 2005 to perform concerts and to record a new album, it took many by surprise, but the group proved they were still making relevant and truly progressive music.
Their reunion would not be a short-lived affair, as VdGG continued to record a series of excellent studio and live albums, despite the departure of David Jackson in late 2005 following the release of the album ‘Present’. Over the next ten years VdGG issued a string of albums and toured as the mood took them.
This boxed set celebrates this second era of Van der Graaf Generator with all of the albums issued by the band between 2005 and 2016 and includes the long deleted live double album and concert DVD ‘Live At Paradiso’ and the rare additional live CD previously issued only on the limited Japanese release of ‘Real Time’.
‘Interference Patterns’ includes a 96-page book with an extensive new essay and band interviews by Sid Smith and features each album in replica album sleeves.

This reputation was enhanced further through a series of albums and live performances with the band Streetwalkers which Chapman formed with ex-Family guitarist John “Charlie” Whitney in 1974.
Upon the demise of Streetwalkers, Roger embarked on a solo career which continues to this day. His first solo album, ‘Chappo’, was released in 1979 and gained critical acclaim in the UK and brought Roger considerable commercial success in Germany, where he would continue to enjoy popularity over the ensuing decades. His legendary live album ‘Live In Hamburg’ (his first with his band The Shortlist) saw Chapman build on this popularity, which was enhanced still further by his next studio album ‘Mail Order Magic’.
This five CD boxed set has been newly remastered and gathers these three albums along with a further 25 bonus tracks over an additional two CDs. The bonus material includes a stunning previously unreleased live set recorded for BBC Radio’s In Concert programme in October 1979, studio out-takes and further live recordings made in Hamburg in January 1981. The set also includes an illustrated booklet with new essay and exclusive interviews.

Esoteric Recordings is pleased to announce the release of ‘Rollin’’, a new box set featuring all of the albums recorded by The Steve Gibbons Band released between 1976 and 1978. This legendary rock band was formed in the mid 1970s and comprised some of the finest musicians on the Birmingham rock scene.
Steve Gibbons had been a figure on the Birmingham scene since the early 1960s and had been a frontman of the group The Uglys until they disbanded in late 1968. In 1969 Gibbons founded the group Balls with Trevor Burton and Denny Laine, but that group fell apart within 14 months before Gibbons to join the last incarnation of The Idle Race in 1971. This line-up, which also featured Dave Carroll and Bob Wilson on guitars and Bob Lamb on drums eventually evolved into The Steve Gibbons Band with the arrival of Trevor Burton on bass and vocals. Burton had been a member of The Move until 1969 and was a member of the group Balls. With this line-up in place, the band perfected their hard, driving blend of rhythm and blues and rock, touring the pub and club circuit in Britain. In 1975 they were spotted by Peter Meaden (The Who’s first manager) and were soon signed to The Who’s management stable.
Their first album, ‘Any Road Up’, featured a guest appearance from John Entwistle and was issued in 1976. The same year the band supported The Who on tour and also toured the USA supporting acts such as Little Feat, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Nils Lofgren. In 1977 the band supported Be Bop Deluxe on their UK tour and recorded the album ‘Rollin’ On’, which featured the hit single ‘Tulane’. Later that year the live album ‘Caught In The Act’ was released and sold well in Europe. This was followed in 1978 with another studio album, ‘Down In The Bunker’, produced by Tony Visconti.

Completed during lockdown conditions imposed by the outbreak of the COVID 19 virus, the EP title track is a poignant and emotive song in the finest musical tradition of PROCOL HARUM. War is Not Healthy is also a fine observation of war and its impact on humanity.
With the lyrical subject matter of both songs being particularly apt for the times we live in, this new music from PROCOL HARUM is timely.

Rosalie Cunningham releases brand new single & video 'Number 149 / Fossil Song'
Since her critically acclaimed debut solo album was released in 2019, Rosalie Cunningham has taken to the road wherever possible. She toured the length and breadth of the country twice before the coronavirus pandemic forced things to a halt. After postponing a confirmed European and US tour Rosalie spent 2020 writing the best part of her much anticipated second album.
12 March is a first glimpse at the sound that Rosalie has been crafting for past eighteen months. Number 149 is a dramatic, psychedelic hit, with a performance that typifies her previous work whilst evolving it to new places. The singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has progressed in both style and substance, and Rosalie maintains her theatrical dazzle and focus is still firmly rooted in ‘60s and ‘70s progressive rock and psychedelia.

There is an organic feel to Rosalie’s music, a testament to her ability to work with almost exclusively analogue equipment, giving Number 149 and B-Side Fossil Song a warmth and nostalgia, but with a clarity and maturity that demonstrates its contemporary take on the classic.
The development of Number 149 found Rosalie reminiscing about her childhood, a time when things were more magical. Rosalie says: “There wasn’t an awful lot going on during lockdown, so looking back was a source of inspiration for me. Number 149 and Fossil Song are both heavily nostalgic. 149 is about the house I grew up in that still, all these years later, worms its way into my dreams almost nightly in forever transmuting guises. There is obviously a deep yearning in me to return to a time when the world seemed a much more magical place and those rooms, those bricks and mortar, represent that to me.”
Fossil Song is a more poignant and sobering number, but one also born of nostalgia: “Fossil Song, less of a happy memory, is about trauma. I won’t go into what exactly that means for me but I'm sure we all have been scarred emotionally at some point in our lives. It’s about carrying that memory, that embossed fossil mark upon your heart with you to the grave. Chipper, eh?”
Rosalie has European festival dates this summer and a headline European tour in 2022, with a new album on the horizon. A colourful video accompanies the release of Number 149, which is available as a limited edition 7” vinyl while stocks last from here.

Jon Anderson's 'Olias Of Sunhillow' gets a 2 Disc Remastered & Expanded Reissue this March!
We are proud to announce the release of a new expanded and re-mastered 2 disc edition of the classic debut solo album by YES vocalist JON ANDERSON, “Olias of Sunhillow”. Released in July 1976, the album was a conceptual work recounting the story of an alien race on a journey to find a new world following volcanic destruction on their home planet. All music on the album was written and performed by Jon Anderson and the recording took place at Anderson’s Buckinghamshire home studio whilst Yes were on hiatus following the tour to promote the album “Relayer”. Initially recorded on an 8-track tape machine, the arrangements were then re-recorded on to a 24-track tape machine. The album saw Jon perform the music entirely alone, teaching himself to play keyboards and acknowledging the influence of such legendary musicians as Rick Wakeman, Patrick Moraz and Vangelis on his work. Indeed, it was even rumoured Vangelis performed on the album, something the maestro would deny in interviews.
“Olias of Sunhillow” was released by Atlantic Records in the summer of 1976 in an elaborate gatefold sleeve designed by David Fairbrother-Roe and was a top ten album in the UK. This Esoteric Recordings edition has been newly remastered from the original album master tapes and fully restores the stunning original artwork and also features a booklet with a new essay and exclusive interview with Jon Anderson.
Over the ensuing years the excellence of the album has led to many calls for the album to be remixed in a 5.1 Surround Sound format. Alas, despite extensive research, the multi-track masters of the album cannot be found. However, this expanded edition of “Olias of Sunhillow” features a DVD featuring a high resolution 96 kHz / 24-bit re-master of the stereo mix and also includes a high resolution 5.1 Surround Sound up-mix derived from the original stereo master tapes as an additional feature.

We are delighted to announce the release of the new studio album by the legendary band STRAWBS. 'Settlement' is the latest album recorded by STRAWBS, more than 50 years on from the band’s first major label release. The album comes at a time of political and social upheaval, which the lyrics and melodies of the songs reflect. Undeterred by the fact that ‘business as usual’ was not possible because of the global COVID-19 pandemic – working remote from one another, from their own home studios – Settlement is a remarkable achievement.
David Cousins, leader of STRAWBS says: “Settlement is something extraordinary. I can’t think of another band who can go from metal grunge to the lilt of an Irish ghost story – or from a song in 6/8 time to singing in 4/4 over a 5/4 backbeat – in half an hour. The lyrics reflect the times we have been living through and I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved.”
'Settlement' is produced by Blue Weaver who played with Strawbs and Bee Gees in their 1970s heydays. The recording was coordinated from Blue’s studio in Germany, where he now lives. STRAWBS are David Cousins, Dave Lambert, Chas Cronk, Tony Fernandez and Dave Bainbridge. Special guests on the album are John Ford, another former member of Strawbs, who lives in New York, Cathryn Craig, with her lovely voice and unmistakable Southern lilt, who lives in Northern Ireland, and bass player Schalk Joubert, with whom David Cousins performed in South Africa at the beginning of the year. The album will be available both on CD and 180 gram vinyl formats.

Recorded in the early months of 1976 at Abbey Road studios (with some sessions and mixing taking place at Davlen Studios in Los Angeles), YEAR OF THE CAT was the seventh album by Stewart and was the second album on which he collaborated with the celebrated producer ALAN PARSONS.
The record was an album of immense musical inventiveness and creativity and was a triumph both in terms of Al Stewart’s song writing and the stunning and sophisticated production by Alan Parsons. Featuring such classic songs as ‘On the Border’, ‘Lord Grenville’, ‘Midas Shadow’, ‘If it Doesn’t Come Naturally, Leave It’, ‘One Stage Before’ and the classic title track. YEAR OF THE CAT was a major commercial and critical success on its release, reaching the US Billboard Top Five and was a European hit, eventually earning platinum disc status in the USA by March 1977. The single ‘Year of the Cat’ was also a Top Ten hit in the States and was a Top 40 hit single in the UK, establishing Al Stewart as a major artist.
This 45th Anniversary edition of this special album has been newly re-mastered for the very first time from the original first-generation master tapes by ALAN PARSONS and also features his stunning new 5.1 Surround sound mix from the original multi-track tapes. In addition, the set includes a complete, previously unreleased concert recorded at the Paramount Theater, Seattle in October 1976 on the YEAR OF THE CAT tour over two CDs and a new mix of the track ‘Belsize Blues’, recorded at Abbey Road Studios in September 1975.

Procol Harum's 'Something Magic' gets the reissue treatment this month with signed postcards by Gary Brooker available with pre-orders!
This October 30th we are proud to be reissuing a new re-mastered 2 CD edition of the classic album “Something Magic” by PROCOL HARUM. First released in March 1977, the album introduced a new band line-up of GARY BROOKER (vocals, piano), B.J. WILSON (drums), CHRIS COPPING (bass), MICK GRABHAM (guitar) and PETE SOLLEY (organ, synthesiser) and was recorded in Miami with producers Ron and Howie Albert.
Although the album would feature a host of marvellous tracks such as ‘Strangers in Space’, ‘Skating on Thin Ice’ and ‘Something Magic’ and the Mick Grabham / Keith Reid composition ‘The Mark of the Claw’, relationships between the band and their producers grew strained when the Albert brothers rejected a number of other tracks written for the new album. As a result, Gary Brooker suggested the inclusion of a lengthy piece he had been working on with lyricist Keith Reid; ‘The Worm and the Tree’. This orchestrated piece would dominate a side of the album and was the first composition of this scale that Procol Harum had recorded since ‘In Held Twas in I’ (on the 1968 album “Shine on Brightly”).
Following the album’s release (and a final US tour with bassist Dee Murray replacing Chris Copping), Procol Harum disbanded, eventually reforming in 1991 with the release of the album “The Prodigal Stranger”. At the time of its release SOMETHING MAGIC stood apart from the emerging Punk rock movement and was unfairly overlooked by critics. However, the passage of time has revealed the excellence of the album.
This new edition of SOMETHING MAGIC has been newly re-mastered and includes 14 bonus tracks comprising the rare B-side “Backgammon” and two live-in-the-studio recordings of ‘You’d Better Wait’ and ‘This Old Dog’, originally written for the album. The set also includes an additional disc featuring Procol Harum’s performance for the BBC TV and Radio series Sight & Sound In Concert from March 1977.
This stereo BBC radio recording has been re-mastered from newly discovered masters and appears on CD for the first time. It includes the complete version of ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’ which was cut in the original television broadcast of the set. The release also includes an illustrated booklet with essay and interviews by Procol Harum archivist Roland Clare.

We are very proud to be releasing a new re-mastered four-disc deluxe expanded boxed set limited edition (comprising 3CDs and a DVD) of AXE VICTIM the legendary 1974 debut album by BE BOP DELUXE this July!
Recorded in the Spring of 1974 at several studios in London, AXE VICTIM was released by EMI’s Harvest label in June 1974 to much critical praise and introduced Be Bop Deluxe to the record buying public. The album featured the band’s first line-up of BILL NELSON (vocals, lead guitar, acoustic guitar, piano), IAN PARKIN (rhythm & acoustic guitars, organ), ROB BRYAN (bass guitar, vocals) and NICHOLAS CHATTERTON-DEW (drums).
AXE VICTIM was a fine debut and was championed by DJ John Peel (who had been an advocate of Bill Nelson’s work since the release of the rudimentary self-released album “Northern Dream” in 1971) as one of his favourite releases of 1974. Although Bill Nelson was still finding his creative feet, AXE VICTIM featured some fine material including the classic ‘Adventures in a Yorkshire Landscape’, along with other fine material such as ‘Night Creatures’, ‘Third Floor Heaven’ (which featured Babe Ruth vocalist Jenny Haan guesting), ‘Jets at Dawn’ and the superb ‘Darkness (L’Immoraliste)’.
This expanded reissue has been newly re-mastered from the original master tapes and features an additional 41 bonus tracks drawn from stunning new 5.1 surround sound & stereo mixes of the album from the original multi-track tapes by award winning engineer Stephen W. Tayler, along with two complete BBC Radio One sessions from November 1973 and May 1974 (including the previously unreleased “lost” John Peel session from November 1973), both sides of the rare Smile Records single ‘Teenage Archangel’ b/w ‘Jets at Dawn’ released by the band in 1973 prior to being signed to EMI. Also included is the complete previously unreleased Be Bop Deluxe audition session for Decca Records from December 1973 (mixed from the original 16 track tapes by Stephen W Tayler) & previously unreleased out-takes from the original album sessions.
Another highlight of this limited-edition boxed set is the lavishly illustrated 68-page book with many previously unseen photographs and an essay of recollections by Bill Nelson. Additionally, the set includes a facsimile Record Store poster and postcards. Mammoth 6CD/1DVD Andrew Gold Box set 'Lonely Boy – The Asylum Years Anthology' Announced for July!
Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of LONELY BOY – THE ASYLUM YEARS ANTHOLOGY, a newly re-mastered seven disc boxed set featuring all of the solo albums released by legendary singer – songwriter ANDREW GOLD on the Asylum label between 1975 and 1980. One of the finest musicians and songwriters to emerge from the Los Angeles music scene in the mid-1970s, Andrew Gold had already established a reputation as an arranger and key member of Linda Ronstadt’s band before breaking out as a solo artist with his self-titled debut album in 1975.
His song ENDLESS FLIGHT was covered by British singer Leo Sayer on his album of the same name the following year.
The classic album WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE followed in 1976 and spawned the huge hit LONELY BOY and broke Andrew internationally. His third album ALL THIS AND HEAVEN TOO would produce three international hit singles in THANK YOU FOR BEING A FRIEND, NEVER LET HER SLIP AWAY and HOW CAN THIS BE LOVE and was another acclaimed work. The 1980 album WHIRLWIND was Andrew’s final album for Asylum. More muscular in nature, it featured the excellent KISS THIS ONE GOODBYE.
Andrew Gold’s recorded legacy is now celebrated with this boxed set featuring 73 tracks on six CDs, including the albums ANDREW GOLD, WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE, ALL THIS AND HEAVEN TOO & WHIRLWIND; all newly re-mastered from the original Asylum Records master tapes, along with a disc of out-takes and rarities from the album sessions and a CD comprising 18 live tracks (17 previously unreleased) drawn from a concert at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles in 1977 and a BBC TV concert recorded in London in November 1976 for the classic series THE OLD GREY WHISTLE TEST. It also includes an additional 80 minute DVD (NTSC – Region Free) featuring six promotional videos, the complete BBC Old Grey Whistle Test concert recorded in November 1976 and broadcast in March 1977 & a special Andrew Gold feature from the show first broadcast in 1978 – all of which are previously unreleased. The set also includes a lavishly illustrated booklet and a poster.

On each of the album’s eleven songs, the production is flawless and the songs and arrangements are imaginative and creatively constructed. The band, featuring Nick Beggs, Frank Van Bogaert, Marty Townsend and Marcus Weymaere, sounds tighter and punchier than ever before.
As a response to the positive reactions to Lula Beggs’ vocal contributions to Fish on Friday’s previous album, Quiet Life, Lula was given a bigger guest role on Black Rain, appearing on four of the eleven tracks on the album.
Black Rain may perhaps be seen as a concept album about the fast changing, (for some, way too fast), world that we live in… Our changing environment, refugees fleeing from war, and global political madness. Although the album certainly has its dark sides, there is also room for sun and happiness.
The album is packaged in a beautiful six panel digipack with a sixteen-page booklet designed by Michal Karcz, which truly complements the music to make every aspect of Black Rain a true work of art and an album for our times.

Esoteric Recordings is pleased to announce the release of a new re-mastered 6 CD clamshell boxed set anthology by the legendary musician SNOWY WHITE. 'Lucky Star – A anthology 1983 – 1994' gathers together all of his solo albums and two albums recorded under the guise of SNOWY WHITE’S BLUES AGENCY.
After some years working as a much in demand guitarist for artists as diverse as AL STEWART, PINK FLOYD and THIN LIZZY, Snowy White branched out as a solo artist with the release of his first solo album WHITE FLAMES in 1983. The album spawned a major hit single in BIRD OF PARADISE early the following year and subsequently enjoyed chart success. This was followed in the 1980s by two more fine albums; SNOWY WHITE and THAT CERTAIN THING. At the end of the decade White formed the band SNOWY WHITE’S BLUES AGENCY and the group recorded the albums CHANGE MY LIFE and OPEN FOR BUSINESS in quick succession.
Snowy White then took a hiatus from recording as a solo artist, but returned to the fore in 1994 with the excellent album HIGHWAY TO THE SUN which featured guest appearances from such stellar talents as DAVID GILMOUR, CHRIS REA and GARY MOORE.
This anthology features all of Snowy White’s albums issued between 1983 – 1994 alongside 18 bonus tracks drawn from rare singles and session recordings from this era. The set includes an illustrated booklet with a new essay and exclusive interview with Snowy White. With many of his albums unavailable for some years Lucky Star is a welcome release and a fine tribute to one of Britain’s great musicians.

First released in February 1984, AMMONIA AVENUE was the seventh album by THE ALAN PARSONS PROJECT, the brainchild of composer, musician and manger ERIC WOOLFSON and celebrated producer and engineer ALAN PARSONS. The inspiration for the album title came from a visit Woolfson had made to the ICI Chemical plant in Billingham, England after meeting ICI chairman Sir John Harvey-Jones on a flight from New York. Upon visiting the plant, Eric Woolfson noticed a long street called Ammonia Avenue, devoid of people and trees and dominated by miles of pipes.

Esoteric Antenna to release brand new studio album by legendary rock band Nektar this January 24th!
Esoteric Antenna is delighted to announce the release of the stunning new studio album by the legendary band Nektar.
Throughout the 1970s Nektar released a series of acclaimed albums, scoring chart success in Germany (where the British band was based) and later in the USA (where the band relocated). Following the passing of original guitarist / vocalist Roye Albrighton in 2016, fellow founder members Derek “Mo” Moore (bass, vocals), Ron Howden (drums, vocals) & Mick Brockett (lyrics, visual conceptions) reunited along with Randy Dembo (bass, 12-string guitar), Ryche Chlanda (guitar, vocals) & Kendall Scott (keyboards) to begin work on a new album.
Ryche Chlanda originally recorded with Nektar in 1978, and for The Other Side the band updated some of those ideas which evolved in the basement of Mo Moore’s house in Chatham, New Jersey. Ron Howden, Mo and Ryche collaborated on much of the music heard on the album. The 1978 unrecorded song ‘Skypilot’ has evolved into ‘Skywriter’ in 2020.
‘I’m On Fire’ is the musical adaptation of a poem written by Mo for his soon-to-be wife, Nicki, during that same time period of 1978. The closing track, ‘Devil’s Door’, was originally performed live in 1974, but never featured on a Nektar album. Updated and recorded for this album, the song features the presence of the late Roye Albrighton on the introduction to the track, whose wonderful guitar part was taken from a live soundboard recording made in 1974.
Kendall Scott’s distinctive & versatile keyboard presence has enhanced this considerably, whilst Randy Dembo, who originally joined Nektar in 2004, brings a uniting presence on 12-string and bass guitars, rounding out the instrumental arrangements. Ron Howden has been a continual driving force of the band, weathering all versions of Nektar since its conception in 1969. With Mick Brockett now back in the fold (with his visual concepts and ideas as an essential part of the band making the music and light theatre a reality). “The Other Side” is a stunning album from a legendary band.

1968 was a pivotal year for creativity in British rock, beginning with some influences of psychedelia still present in work by ground-breaking artists such as Pretty Things, Tomorrow, Incredible String Band, Idle Race, Traffic and The Move, but gradually giving way to styles influenced by jazz, blues, folk and more that would eventually become termed as “progressive”, “folk- rock” and “hard” rock, all of which championed by “underground” figures of the day such as DJ John Peel on his BBC Radio One show Top Gear and by publications such as International Times and Oz.
The common thread among all of these artists was an emphasis on experimentation and a desire to push the perceived boundaries of popular music. It was also a year that would see the very first record releases by bands that would go on to achieve success and influence in the 1970s such as Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Barclay James Harvest, Genesis, Status Quo, Van Der Graaf Generator and Caravan.
Aside from featuring better known acts such as Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Procol Harum and Pentangle, this compilation also features lesser known acts that produced work of a wide breadth such as Eyes of Blue, Love Sculpture, The Action, Dantalian’s Chariot, Elmer Gantry’s Velvet Opera, Gun, Second Hand, The Moles and Blonde on Blonde.

Gary Brooker picked up the Outstanding Contribution Award, while John Lees received the Visionary Award.

Cherry Red Records is pleased to announce that they have acquired the extensive catalogue of Witchwood Media, home to the music of the legendary Strawbs and roster of other related artists. The acquisition follows the release of The Ferryman’s Curse, the acclaimed new studio album by Strawbs, in the Autumn of 2017 on Cherry Red’s Esoteric Recordings imprint.
Cherry Red managing director Adam Velasco said; “We enjoyed working with Strawbs on The Ferryman’s Curse and it was a successful project for us. To bring the Witchwood catalogue to Cherry Red is very special. We are looking forward to bringing this wonderful collection of albums on catalogue under the Cherry Red umbrella in the coming months”.

Esoteric Recordings are proud to announce the release of an official limited edition deluxe boxed set of Yes founder CHRIS SQUIRE’s legendary 1975 solo album FISH OUT OF WATER.
Recorded in the late Spring and Summer of 1975 whilst Yes was on hiatus as members recorded their respective solo albums, FISH OUT OF WATER was a breath-taking work, and equal in standard to any Yes album in terms of sheer invention and creativity. The album was essentially a collaboration between Chris Squire and his friend Andrew Pryce Jackman, a gifted arranger who had been a member of The Syn, Squire’s pre-Yes group. The sessions saw contributions from former Yes drummer BILL BRUFORD, Yes keyboard player PATRICK MORAZ and noted musicians MEL COLLINS and JIMMY HASTINGS. Released in November 1975, FISH OUT OF WATER was a Top 30 chart hit in the UK and made the US Billboard Top 75 album chart, going on to sell nearly 500,000 copies worldwide.
The highlight of this limited edition deluxe boxed set is a stunning new 5.1 Surround Sound mix (exclusive to this set on an NTSC / Region Free DVD), along with a new stereo mix, from the original multi-track master tapes by JAKKO JAKSZYK and a new re-master of the original 1975 mix by Paschal Byrne. FISH OUT OF WATER also includes four bonus tracks of the single edits of ‘Lucky Seven’ and ‘Silently Falling’, along with both sides of the 1981 single by CHRIS SQUIRE and ALAN WHITE; ‘Run With the Fox’ and Return of the Fox (appearing on CD for the first time).
The boxed set also includes a replica 180 gram gatefold LP with poster of FISH PUT OF WATER (mastered and cut from the original tapes at Abbey Road studios), along with two seven inch singles of ‘Lucky Seven’ b/w ‘Silently Falling’ and ‘Run With the Fox’ b/w ‘Return of the Fox’, both in picture sleeves. To complete the content is a visual DVD (NTSC / Region Free) featuring the 1975 FISH OUT OF WATER promotional film featuring the songs Hold Out Your Hand and ‘You By My Side’, along with a 2006 interview with Chris Squire conducted by Jon Kirkman and a 2006 audio commentary by Chris Squire. Finally, the set also contains a 36-page book with an essay by Sid Smith featuring exclusive interviews with BILL BRUFORD, PATRICK MORAZ, GREGG JACKMAN and JAKKO JAKSZYK.

Procol Harum – Still There’ll Be More – a limited edition 8 disc anthology spanning 1967-2017 will be released on 23 March 2018
Esoteric Recordings are proud to announce the release of an official limited edition super deluxe boxed set celebrating fifty years of the legendary Procol Harum; Still There’ll Be More. This eight disc set comprises five CDs and three DVDs, of which the first three discs draw upon the key tracks from Procol Harum’s illustrious career. Disc four features the band’s legendary concert at the Hollywood Bowl on 21 September 1973 (with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and the Roger Wagner Chorale), whilst disc five features a previously unreleased concert at the Bournemouth Winter Gardens on 17 March 1976.
This lavish re-mastered set also features a sixty-eight page hard backed book with an essay by Patrick Humphries and a lengthy in depth commentary on the performances featured by respected Procol Harum authority Roland Clare. The book also includes many previously unseen photographs and memorabilia from Gary Brooker’s private collection. Still There’ll Be More also includes a 60cm x 40 cm reproduction poster from a Procol Harum concert (featuring support from Vivian Stanshall) in 1976.

First up on the Atomhenge imprint is a 180 gram 45 rpm vinyl limited edition release of the classic 1976 single by HAWKWIND, ‘Kerb Crawler’ b/w ‘Honky Dorky’.
Featuring a line-up of Dave Brock, Robert Calvert, Simon House, Simon King, Alan Powell & Nik Turner, the single was originally issued on Charisma Records and was mixed by Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour. Featuring the rare B-side ‘Honky Dorky’ (a non-album track), this Atomhenge reissue is adorned in a new picture sleeve design exclusive to Record Store Day 2017.
Also on offer is a 180 gram vinyl LP limited edition release of “THE CRAZY WORLD OF ARTHUR BROWN”. The Psychedelic Rock classic burst forth in 1968, topping the album charts on both sides of the Atlantic and spawning the hit single ‘Fire’. The rock world discovered the delights of rock’s supreme showman ARTHUR BROWN and his influence would be felt the following decade when ALICE COOPER acknowledged his debt to Arthur’s genius. Produced by WHO manager KIT LAMBERT and WHO guitarist PETE TOWNSHEND, this classic album has been remastered and includes a reproduction of a very rare 1968 Track Records promotional poster.

Esoteric Recordings acquire TIM BLAKE catalogue and announce reissue campaign
Cherry Red Records and their label Esoteric Recordings are delighted to announce that they have acquired the solo catalogue by synthesizer pioneer Tim Blake. Tim is of course known for his work with Gong on the classic albums Flying Teapot, Angel’s Egg and You, and for his collaborations with Hawkwind on the albums Live Seventy Nine and Levitation and his work with the band in the new millennium.
His solo albums are now regarded as truly groundbreaking for their use of synthesisers, paving the way for electronic music of the 1980s and beyond with albums such as Crystal Machine (1977) and Blake’s New Jerusalem (1978). However, Tim also recorded further solo albums such as Magick and Tide of the Century, both of which will also be reissued this year by Esoteric, along with previously unreleased material.
As Tim himself declares; “It's interesting to note that we are now 40 years on from Crystal Machine's release, and 45 Years of me working on electronique creations outside of Gong and Hawkwind”.
Esoteric Recordings begin the reissues of Tim’s solo works with expanded, re-mastered editions of Crystal Machine and Blake’s New Jerusalem on 31st March 2017.

February 24th will see Esoteric Recordings release a live album by legendary guitarist STEVE HACKETT and the gifted Hungarian group DJABE. “Summer Storms and Rocking Rivers” was captured at a concert in Bratislava in July 2011 and a concert in Budapest in November 2012. The music within this release features well known Steve Hackett solo material such as The Steppes and Ace of Wands, alongside legendary Genesis material such as Firth of Fifth, Blood on the Rooftops, In That Quiet Earth and Los Endos.
The DVD (NTSC – Region Free) included in this two disc set features a concert in Bratislava in July 2011 and also includes bonus features of a short documentary, the piece Jacuzzi / Overnight Sleeper, recorded in November 2013 with the Hungarian Symphony Orchestra and the promotional video of the song Tears for Peace.

Esoteric Antenna are delighted to announce the release of the new, self-titled debut studio album by SON OF MAN. As their name suggests, SON OF MAN are related to the legendary Welsh band MAN.
The group was formed by former MAN members GEORGE JONES (guitar) and BOB RICHARDS (drums), following the sad passing of George’s father (and Man founder) CKY JONES, initially to pay homage to Micky’s work at a series of tribute concerts. Now, some years on from this, SON OF MAN is a recording band in their own right, also featuring GLENN QUINN (guitars), RICHIE GALLONI (lead vocals), MARCO JAMES (keyboards) and RAY JONES (bass).
A fine collection of 11 original songs, the album follows in the tradition of MAN’s music but also has a contemporary edge. Van der Graaf Generator release their 13th studio album ‘Do Not Disturb’, which is their third album since their reinvention as a three-piece group ten years ago.
Released on 30 September through Esoteric Records, the band adopted an old school approach of fully rehearsing the pieces before a record button was hit. Then, in an intensive week, all the backing tracks were recorded live.
Once the various parts of each song had been stitched together - pieces were constituted of up to nine different elements and some involved prepared sonic passages as well as the live tracks - individual overdubbing took place in their own studios.
Some of this music is as technically demanding as anything VdGG have ever played. Other passages rely on the feel and empathy which has been built up over the years. As a whole, it’s a confident and assertive exploration of the possibilities of a modern trio. Lyrically, the passage of time and the cascades of shared memory and experience illuminate the songs. ‘Do Not Disturb’ is a vital addition to the recorded VdGG canon.
Van der Graaf Generator are one of the foremost innovators of rock. Peerless and relentlessly creative, they were originally formed in 1967 in Manchester by Peter Hammill and Chris Judge Smith and by 1968, following a few lineup alterations including Chris leaving, Hugh Barton and Guy Evans and latterly David Jackson (in 1970) came together to form the classic VdGG lineup. Following a 17 year hiatus (1978 - 2005), the core group reunited and released their ninth studio album ‘Present’. David departed the band in 2006 and VdGG have remained a trio releasing two studio and two live albums, with ‘Do Not Disturb’ being their third.

Tony Patterson set to release fifth solo album 'Equations Of Meaning' in February 2016
Following on from the very well received 'Northlands' with Brendan Eyre, Tony Patterson returns this February with his fifth solo offering Equations Of Meaning.

The release includes a booklet, which fully restores the original album artwork and a new essay.
Also out Jan 29th is the wonderful new studio album by multi-Grammy Award nominated engineer and Pink Floyd co-producer ANDY JACKSON – '73 Days at Sea'. As one would expect of a musician, engineer and producer of the pedigree of Andy Jackson, the finished album is nothing short of impressive, both sonically and musically. The record is arguably dominated by 17 minute epic "Drownings”, which features stunning saxophone contributions from former Van Der Graaf Generator member David Jackson and a guest vocal by Anne-Marie Helder of the band Panic Room. The release also features a DVD featuring a stunning 5.1 Surround Sound Mix and a 96 kHz / 24-bit stereo mix.
Finally, we have WHAT WE ASK IS WHERE WE BEGIN the latest eagerly awaited album by Prog Award nominees, SANGUINE HUM. Following hot on the heels of 2015’s highly acclaimed double album Now We Have Light, Sanguine Hum return to cast an intriguing light on the early years of their career.

SKY to release Christmas single 'Troika' this December in digital format!
December 4th 2015 sees the release of a digital EP by the legendary classical rock band SKY, featuring their 1983 interpretation of 'Troika' from Lieutenant Kije by Sergei Prokofiev.
Originally from SKY’s Cadmium album, 'Troika' was first released in December 1983 and has become a piece synonymous with Christmas. ‘Ostinato’ is a labour of love, built on a forty years’ vision by Stephen, who is influenced by modern electronica and is a Minimalist composer in the tradition of Terry Riley, Philip Glass, and Steve Reich. "I had so many ideas for music and sound running around inside my head as a teenager, and now, more than 40 years on, technology has evolved to the point where I can realise this vision, as if the outer world and my inner music have finally synchronised, and the production of this album has at last been made possible.” says Stephen. "These are the sounds and ideas that have lived in my mind… the sound of voices, choirs, organs, the piano, the clarinet, synthesizers, vocoders, places and environments, from the depths of my memory and across the years.”
As a mixing and recording engineer, music producer, musician, composer and sound designer, Stephen has contributed this collection of talents to hundreds of world-class albums for artists including Rupert Hine, Suzanne Vega, Peter Gabriel, Underworld, Duncan Sheik, Howard Jones, Stevie Nicks, Milla Jovovich, Rush, Bob Geldof and Tina Turner. Esoteric Recordings is proud to announce the release of a 5CD clamshell boxed set anthology by legendary guitarist, composer and instrumentalist ANTHONY PHILLIPS.
Anthony was a founding member of Genesis alongside Peter Gabriel, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks with whom he recorded the albums From Genesis To Revelation and Trespass. After leaving the group in 1970, Anthony studied orchestration and harmony externally at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. After passing his LGSM exams, he taught music at Reeds School and Peper Harrow whilst continuing to compose and record in his home studio.
He marked his return to the commercial music scene with the release of his debut solo album The Geese & The Ghost in 1977 and continued to create a large and diverse output as a recording artist on albums such as Wise After The Event, Sides, Slow Dance, 1984 and Field Day. Alongside these releases Anthony is known for the successful series of the Private Parts & Pieces albums. Beginning in 1978 the first four volumes featured an extensive range of music recorded by Ant for various projects (going as far back as 1972) and came to be regarded by fans as essential collections of his wide and diverse compositional work.
Now, Anthony Phillips and Jonathan Dann have compiled this 5 disc deluxe set, which gathers together the first four Private Parts & Pieces albums (with a total of 18 bonus tracks), along with an additional 18-track CD of previously unreleased material. Private Parts & Pieces I - IV is the definitive statement on these classic albums.
The set includes a lavish booklet with an essay by Jonathan Dann and fully restores the artwork of the original vinyl releases.

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010 as a member of Genesis, Tony is one of the most respected songwriters and keyboardists in the world. His career spans almost 50 years and has seen him sell in excess of 130 million albums. His body of work is as innovative as it is eclectic.
Genesis’ avantgarde style made them one of progressive rock’s founding fathers in the 1970s, creating an experimental style of rock music never before seen. They went on to produce music with a greater pop sensibility in the 1980s that saw them become one of the biggest selling bands of the decade, and play stadiums throughout the world. Tony Banks’ solo work has continued in the same vein. His rock albums have included collaborations with some of the world’s most respected musicians including singers Toyah Wilcox, Fish and Nick Kershaw, bassist Pino Pallodino, and drummers Steve Gadd and Vinnie Colaiuta, as well as long time Genesis collaborators Daryl Stuermer and Chester Thompson. He has composed original scores for four films The Shout (1978), The Wicked Lady (1983), Starship (1985) and Quicksilver (1986) and most recently his orchestral albums, Seven: A Suite for Orchestra and Six Pieces for Orchestra, that were performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra and City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra respectively.
